So I haven't added any new reviews yet; I finally obtained a method of playing most NES roms and can go back and review; I want to make sure I am able to play the games I review. I'm reviewing month by month, although I started with the Nintendo. In any case, I just played all of the games released in October 1985 (the very first games released). One surprise game on an emulator is Gyromite. This game originally required ROB the Robot, which was very frustrating. if you didn't want to do that, you could play with the second controller, which is what I originally did when I had the Nintendo, but even that was frustrating. On the Fceux, what you can do is, if you have a 4-button controller with a d-pad and at least the left joystick (similar to the snes or playstation controllers), you can program controller one with the d-pac and the bottom buttons to and b, and then program the joystick and top 2 buttons as controller 2 a and b, and this makes the game soooo much more playable and fun. I had fun with the original, but this was even better, what was once a hunk of a junk has been made into a gem for me. Aside from this, there are a few standout games from 1985. Duck Hunt is a notable favorite of many simply for the Zapper gun and the dog; Super Mario started a revolution, so it has to be mentioned, and of course it's the game that started it all. But Excitebike was the best of the first games, in my opinion.
