This year was infamous for the video game crash, and also happened to be the year of my birth. There was an influx of games, most of which I cannot find a playable version at this time, while the ones that could be played were either overly simplistic, or a re-hash of existing games.

Not many games were released in 1981, but Asteroids was a nice take on space shooters.

This particular year saw the Atari release of Space Invaders. While Pong was the first video game and thus the first popular game, I consider Space Invaders the first popular console game, and for that it does deserve credit as it lands on our top 100.

We were starting to see an influx of board game adaptations. While this was unique because it allowed gamers to play games when their friends were not available, it didn't exactly capture the same emotion. All in all, I did enjoy them, but I'd have to give the game of 1979 to Sky Diver.

A couple decent games in Codebreaker & Breakout, as Atari was gaining ground and learning how to utilize the controls a bit better by now. Still, modern-day versions offer enhanced appeal, but at the time there was very limited option.
